Why we are building Mapstead
Mapstead is built by JuMaSt Appworks LLC for people who are responsible for a place and tired of keeping it all in their head.
Every property runs on knowledge that is rarely written down: which valve shuts off the barn, when the septic was last pumped, which breaker feeds the well, where the drain line crosses the driveway. That knowledge lives in memory, in a shoebox of receipts, in a camera roll, and sometimes only with the previous owner.
Beginner-first, on purpose
Most mapping tools assume you already know what a layer is and what you want to draw. Mapstead starts from the opposite assumption: you have never mapped anything, and you need prompts telling you what a useful entry looks like. Guided categories for buildings, utilities, boundaries, outdoor features, and safety items exist for exactly that reason.
Local-first, on purpose
A detailed map of your property — shutoffs, access routes, gate locations — is sensitive. Mapstead is designed so core property records stay on your Android device. Mapstead does not operate a server that stores users' property records, and precise property information is not automatically uploaded.
Honest about limits
Mapstead is not a survey, not a parcel record, and not a utility locate service. It cannot detect anything buried, and it will never claim to. Boundaries need a licensed land surveyor. Digging needs a professional locate — in the United States, contact 811 first.
Where things stand
Mapstead is available for open testing on Google Play as version 0.01. That build is a testing version rather than a production release: features, workflows, and stored data structures may change, and open-testing access does not guarantee permanent availability. There is no iPhone, iPad, web, or desktop version.
Development is ongoing and driven by what testers actually run into on real properties. If something is confusing, broken, or missing, telling us is the most useful thing you can do right now.
