Local-first property app

Your property records belong to you

Mapstead is designed around local device storage rather than requiring you to upload your property layout and records to a Mapstead account.

Local-first design

How Mapstead handles your property information

  • Stored on your device

Core property records are designed to live locally on your Android device.

  • No Mapstead record server

Mapstead does not operate a server that stores users' property records.

  • Location used only on demand

Location is used only when you actively use a location feature, such as placing a point where you are standing.

  • No automatic upload

Precise property information is not automatically uploaded anywhere.

  • Online tiles are the exception

Online map tiles may require an internet connection. That is a map imagery request, not a transfer of your property records.

  • Exports are yours to move

Reports and handoff packages are created on your device, and you decide whether to share them.

The honest tradeoff

Local-first also means local responsibility

Cloud backup and synchronization are not currently available in customer builds. That is a deliberate consequence of the local-first design, and it means your device is the place your records live.

If you lose the device, the records on it are at risk in the same way photos or notes would be. Keep your own device backups, and use Mapstead exports when you want a copy somewhere else.

We would rather be straightforward about this than imply a safety net that does not exist. If cloud backup ships later, it will be described plainly, including what would be uploaded and when.

Why it matters

Reasons property owners prefer local-first

  • A detailed property map is sensitive information about where you live
  • Shutoffs, access routes, and gate locations are security-relevant
  • No account is required for your property data to exist
  • No third-party service to breach, sell, sunset, or change terms on you
  • The app remains useful where signal is poor
  • You choose exactly when information leaves the device

Test a property app built privacy-first

Mapstead is available for Android open testing on Google Play. The current build is a testing version, not a production release, and tester feedback directly shapes what comes next.
