A method that works
How to map a property without getting overwhelmed

Write down the questions you need answered
Where is the main water shutoff? Which breaker feeds the barn? Where is the septic lid? Those questions become your first map features.

Map safety and shutoffs first
Water, electrical, and gas controls, plus emergency access. If you stop after this tier, the map has already paid for itself.

Add systems you maintain
Wells, pumps, septic components, irrigation, HVAC equipment, generators, and water treatment.

Capture two photos per feature
One wide orientation shot showing the surroundings, one close detail shot showing labels, model plates, or valve direction.

Record how confident you are
Note whether a location is verified, estimated, or taken from a document. Future you needs to know the difference.
